“Jenna Evans,” The principal’s voice boomed through the speakers, causing a mix of nervousness and excitement to bubble up inside me. Taking a deep breath, I adjusted my cap and made my way up towards the grand staircase in the podium.

As I was climbing the staircase, anticipation was building in the air, the crowd was buzzing with energy as all their eyes were fixed on me. The sound of applause filled the place, growing louder and louder with each step I'm taking. Amidst the crowd of faces, I could pick out my dad's proud smile, and my brother's. Both of their voices surprisingly rang above the others, cheering me on.

I reached the podium, and looked at the sea of familiar faces. Friends, family and teachers were all gathered together to celebrate this moment of graduation.

Taking a moment to compose myself, due to feeling a bit overwhelmed, I gripped the edges of the podium for support. The cheers quieted down, and a hush fell over the room as all the eyes were really focused on me now.

Man, being the centre of attention is really not cool, my palms are sweating nervously.

Okay, Jenna. You can do this, may the soul of Addison Smith, who thrives on attention possess you for a few minutes.

After adjusting the mic, I began to speak, my voice steady and confident. I shared my gratitude for the family, friends and teachers who guided me throughout my journey. I expressed my appreciation for the challenges and opportunities that shaped me into the person I am today.

Little by Little, the energy in the crowd was building up, followed by the cheers and applause. It encouraged me to continue, the words were flowing effortlessly now, as if the crowd's enthusiasm was helping my confidence.

I shared stories of wins and setbacks, highlighting the lessons I had learned along the way. It was a moment of reflection, to not only say about my achievements but the accomplishments of the school as well.

As I came to the end of the speech, I couldn't help but feel pride. The cheers were at their peak, echoing throughout the crowd, as they showed appreciation for my words.

I stepped away from the podium, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. It was as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Relief seeping through me, I made my way down the stairs, greeted by hugs.

Which I'll only let slide for today.

“Jenna, you rocked!” Addy exclaimed, enveloping me into a tight hug. I felt a rush of overwhelming emotions, my eyes threatening to tear up.

It was hard to believe this was the end of our high school journey, the four years spent together passed by in a flash. And soon, we all would be in our different paths.

“Thanks, Addy,” I buried my face into the crook of her neck, my voice trembling slightly.

“Jen, Are you crying?” She sniffled, as I  blinked my tears away.
