𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐎𝐅𝐓 𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐄 of the mid-morning glow, sunlight streamed through partially drawn curtains, bestowing the room with a warm, golden radiance.

Khairiah Styx, usually the epitome of composure, stood by the phone, reminiscing the call she endured only moments prior. An aura of sheer frustration shrouded her features; her grey eyes, which were usually rather placid, were now clouded with irritation as she furiously slammed the receiver into the machine, watching her white walls as they shook slightly in response.

With an exasperated sigh, she abruptly abandoned the telephone. God, how much she hated him – it was nearly consuming her whole. Finnick Odair's arrogance was practically dripping through her existence – forcing her to witness his cavalier dismissal of her best wishes with a smug indifference that made her blood boil. His air of entitlement and casual disregard for her emotions towards him fueled her antipathy, a flame that burned brighter with each encounter.

For Khairiah, he embodied everything she truly despised; a smugness which masqueraded his unalloyed confidence, a privilege which presented as charm – painfully and seamlessly weaving its way into her life – a notion she never asked for in the first place. It left Khairiah asking; why her? Why had he taken on such a strange interest while she continually disregarded him in the most ill-mannered of ways? Was he truly so blissfully unaware of her hatred towards him?

The sentiment and question swallowed her whole; so painfully tiresome that she wanted to rip his existence from the very roots of Panem – though that would never be possible – of course – it was a thirst she wanted to quench so desperately.
