Mud

"Goddamit," I fall on my knees with the fish I just caught.

I'm trying. I'm not that great yet, but I want to do for him. He's been unwell.

One of the fish flap and land on the ground. I sigh, then pick up a rock to put it out of its misery for good.

"Let's try this again," I get up and start climbing back to where Sita is.

I've been out here forever. It's finally cooling down.

My hands are cut and my knees are scrapped from falling just now. A sack I made from my shirt carries small fruits and oysters.

"Hm?" I pause when my eyes catch Sita through the entrance closest to me.

He's in bed... still?

I quickly climb a few more rocks then start walking over to the opening. Anxiety and worry fills me.

Is he okay?

I slowly put down my catch and fruits. While walking over to him, I put my hands in my torn pants to find some sort of comfort.

"I don't stink," I say after smelling myself.

Should I comfort him? I don't know what to do anymore. When I try, it backfires

I hold my hand out over his body, but decide against touching his skin. He moans in his sleep this shifts around.

"I'll make the fire for tonight," I mumble, then hop yo it.

Oh? Hi there...

My eyes catch a baby monkey peeking in the cave from the outside platue.

I laugh quietly.

"Hi... Shh," I smile.

A bigger monkey appears. It's still small compared to me but clearly twice as big as the tiny monkey. They quickly communicate with eachother. It makes me look back at sita.

"O, y'all know he's sleepin?" I ask.

More baby monkeys show themselves. The small monkeys jump on my legs. I almost shout from being shocked until I realize they're just hanging on.

"You want food?" I ask.

The big monkey stands up straight, then yanks my finger.

"What?" I laugh.

Y'all are so sweet.

The adult monkey keeps yanking my finger. When I don't move it adds a second hand.

"Yes?" I say quickly and stoop down.

When I don't do what it wants they start making loud noises.

"No... bad monkeys, shhh-"

The large one yanks my finger over and over again. I step forward. When I do, it seemingly points down the hall.

"The shower?" I ask.

"Oo, oo, oo, oo-"

"You're thirsty?" I ask.

All of them start screeching.

"Then what is it?" I whisper, so they'll hush.

All of them let me go and run down the hall. I follow them quickly so they won't mess up anything.

"What?" I ask.

Who am I kidding. Does Sita know all of them?

I enter Sita's beautiful washing area. My eyes find the monkeys on the left. They run and run to a new area I've resisted exploring. I follow them, but soon become nervous.
