A soft groan broke the silence, and Sora slowly opened her eyes. She glanced at The Emperor on her right. He was still sitting on his ornate chair, the flickering candlelight casting shadows on his face, a bead of sweat glistened on his forehead and his expression was scrunched slightly.

Their eyes met and Sora looked him up and down with a questioning gaze.

The Emperor shook his head. "A...bad memory."

Sora hummed, her eyes trailing back to where Arjen and Arien slept peacefully, watching the soft rise and fall of their chests. She reached out, her fingers gently grazing Arjen's tousled hair, strands slipping through her touch like silk.

"Rurahel."

Her hand momentarily paused.

"How sad."

"Why do you think The Emperor took us in?"

Arjen's eyes trailed to glance at Arien before his focus drifted to his own lap. He tugged down on the cufflink adorning his sleeve. It was a modified...gift.

"Well...on a whim?" he said with a shrug. "Something like that."

"Oh. What do you think, Sora?"

"Why not."

'Yeah, should have expected that'

"Young Master Rosea!" Arien beamed when she saw him standing in the room as the knights pushed open the door.

"Ah, Your Imperial Highnesses. I was awaiting you," he said with a bow, a hand over his chest. "I have brought the book you asked for."

Arien gave him a wide smile. "Thanks!"

She heard the doors close behind her as Sora told the servants to leave and looked at Young Master Rosea and asked, "Can you tell us the story now?"

"Of course." He gestured towards the couch and Arien happily followed him.

Arjen paused and looked at Sora, who looked at him and rolled her eyes. She pulled him down into a beanbag (where did that come from?) that was placed beside the couch and leaned her back against his side.

"You can watch them or whatever," she said as she pulled out a book of her own and flipped open to a new page and began to write.

Arjen took one single glance at the page Sora began writing on before he looked away. He didn't really want to know what she wrote about. He silently tuned in on Young Master Rosea's voice as he listened to him talk with Arien.

"This is a history book about The Emperor's ascension up until last year. It has records of the births, coronations, and achievements of the Imperial family. Are you interested in Guardians, Your Highness?"

"Y-yeah..." Arien nodded, slightly embarrassed.

"I see. Then let us begin with that." He flipped to a page of the book and began reciting what was on the page. "The only ruler of this Empire to not have a guardian, his current Majesty, The Emperor."

"The Emperor doesn't have a guardian!?" Arien asked in shock.

"Yes."

"Wasn't having a guardian one of the symbols and qualifications of being royalty?" Arien asked as she remembered the lessons Ishian had drilled into her head.

"While that is true, look at this page," he pointed at a paragraph. "The Imperial calendar; year XXX month XX day XX, The Emperor transferred his guardian to The Empress and Her Majesty became the new host of the guardian."

"Transfer...is that even possible?"

"That old man didn't fucking tell me that," Sora cursed with a gasp. Visibly offended.

"I've heard that you can only transfer your guardian to someone if you have a very close connection."
