one day

love will find you

and send you

careening off a cliff

in a tumble

of breathlessness

and parisian poésie

sparkling with midnights

and soft streetlights

peering in at us

clinking together glasses

of regrets pressed

into red wine

fine red wine nursed

into the blood

flowing through our veins

a little faster tonight

spilling back out past our lips

in the form of secrets

that rush out

like waterfalls

loud and crashing

and daring the beautifully deadly

to come forth and love,

daring the souls who always venture

too far

and we do

we wade in the waters

trying to find each other

in this freshwater saltwater

lake ocean river—

who knows where we are

when i'm just drowning

trying to start loving

the way i already am

dreaming of something more

the way i am simply careening

off this cliff

pulled down a waterfall

waiting to be caught

in your arms

but who knew

you were falling

right beside me

and no one's to catch us

when we fall

somewhere deeper

than confessed regrets

and the crisp curling air

of a bakery's morning

and warm apple strudels—

something that pulls

at our heartstrings

to make us merely puppets

in a play

about the love

that sent us careening

off a cliff

to a plummeting

beginning

to a faraway ending

where rushed out secrets

meet slowed down somethings,

less frantic, more wanting,

tending to a garden

that sometimes wilts

sometimes thrives

but is always yours, always mine
