JAMES POTTER HAD BEEN AWARE of Autumn Rivers since their shared first year at Hogwarts, but he had never actually communicated with her until well into their third year. The two students had each other for their Care of Magical Creatures class, with the introduction of hippogriffs acting as the catalyst for their conversation.
The trio of James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew were all stood together in their Care of Magical Creatures class, with Remus Lupin absent due to it being the night of the full moon. The three Gryffindor boys were behaving rather arrogantly, with their overconfidence causing them to underestimate the hippogriff they were going to interact with.
The majority of the students in the class took a cautious approach, ensuring their distance from the hippogriff and paying close attention to the lesson at hand. No one wanted to end up being harmed by the powerful magical creature, so they remained on the cautious and reserved side of things.
Raven and Autumn both occupied distinct locations in the class, with their different interests dictating where they would decide to stand. Raven, who was highly gifted in Herbology, preferred to keep her distance from the hippogriff, choosing against the activities that required caution. Autumn, on the other hand, stood in the front, prepared to interact with the large magical creature directly.
