Lilith's POV:
"Uh hi," I said awkwardly as I shifted from foot to foot.
Hui Jie was looking me up and down from behind her tinted glasses.
"What do you want," she said.
There was not a single hint of emotion behind her sharp, metallic tone. I slowly sat down beside her. She scooted away.
    "Well...I just wanted to...talk?" I said carefully.
"About what." Her voice was weighted with cynicism.
I stopped myself when I was about to kickstart a conversation.
Why was I even trying? I looked up at Hui Jie, staring at me expectantly with one of her eyebrows raised. I could feel her judging my existence. The air around us turned cold despite the merciless sunlight beating down on the Earth.
    "Nothing," I mumbled.
I sprang up and retraced my steps back to the tree I had been sitting under previously. Aish, I knew I should've shut up and minded my own business. There's no use trying to make up to her, it is simply impossible to crack her tough shell of aloofness.
I took a few moments to recover. Ah, damn it! I should've apologized! What was I thinking? Why did I stutter and stumble around her like an absolute idiot? This was preposterous!
I turned to look at Hui Jie again. She was squinting her eyes at me from a distance. I could feel her scrutinizing every atom in my body. I immediately whipped around, not wanting to see her.
I thought I hated her, yet here I am, trying to repair our lost friendship. I mean, at least I have come to my senses.
Whatever, the damage had been done. I guess I just have to make it through the Thailand trip without conversing with her.
I sighed, gathered all my belongings, and left.
