Owen POV

I watched Rose and Mark Evans through the one way mirror.

I had to control my anger. I saw the report on Aria’s injuries. They were fucking monsters. I worked on a lot of domestic abuse cases, but this was one of the worst ones I saw. The number of old injuries on her body made my stomach turn.

How could someone do that to a child? How could they watch that little girl in pain? How could they hurt her like that?

I had to control myself. I was a sheriff, and I couldn’t punch the shit out of them, no matter how much I wanted to.

“Are you ready?” Brad asked, tightening his jaw.

He was as pissed off as I was. He wanted to hurt them as much as I did.

I couldn’t even imagine what Henry was going through. I didn’t have children, but if I did and anyone hurt my child like that…

A man in me wanted to give Henry the gun and let him inside the interrogation room. A police officer in me stopped me from doing that. Henry was my friend, and I wasn’t going to let him go to jail.

“I’m ready.” I said, placing the folder under my arm and walking out of the room.

Brad followed behind me.

I stopped in front of the interrogation room door and took a deep breath.

I really needed to control myself. I knew how hard it would be to control my anger once the bastard started speaking, but I really fucking needed to control myself.

I opened the door, and both of them looked up at me.

“Where is our daughter?” the bastard yelled.

He wanted to stand up, but both of them were cuffed to the table.

“She is not your daughter.” Brad said as he closed the door behind us.

Brad and I walked to the table and sat down opposite them.

Mark was staring at us. His eyes were narrowed, and his fists were clenched tight.

“What the fuck are you talking about?” Mark asked, gritting his teeth. “She is our daughter.”

“The DNA result says different.” I said as I placed the folder on the table and opened it.

I grabbed the copy of the DNA report and placed it on the table. I turned it around and pushed it toward them. Both of them looked down at it.

“This is fake.” the fucker said, pushing the paper back toward me. “Bring me my daughter back and let us the fuck go.”

I tightened my jaw. I really, really wanted to punch him.

I took another piece of paper out of the folder.

“This paper proves that your wife was a nurse at the hospital where the twins were born.” I said as I pushed the paper toward them. “She worked there for years and quit the same day that Aria went missing.”

Both of them looked down at the paper again.

“Why did you take that little girl if you didn’t want her?” Brad asked, leaning back on his chair and crossing his arms over his chest.

Mark looked up at Brad. Rose kept her eyes on the piece of paper in front of her.

“We didn’t take her.” Mark said angrily. “She is ours.”

I sighed and took the paper back, placing it in the folder.

“Bring me my daughter back!” Mark shouted. “She belongs to me!”

The fucker was relentless, so I decided to play his game.

I leaned back on the chair, crossed my arms over my chest, and narrowed my eyes at the fucker.

“Fine.” I shrugged. “If she is your daughter, and if you want her and love her so much, why did you abuse her?”

The fucker’s eyes widened. Rose gasped.

“She is a liar!” Rose yelled. “We never touched her!”

I looked at Rose and raised an eyebrow.

“Really?” I asked. “You never touched her? You never hurt your daughter?”

Brad grabbed the file in front of me and opened it.

“No.” Rose said angrily, clenching her fists. “She had a wonderful life. Everything she said was a lie.”

The anger rose inside of me. I had never punched a woman, but Rose could be the first woman I will ever punch. Fucking bitch.

“How do you explain these medical reports then?” Brad asked, his voice laced with anger. “How do you explain all the broken bones, scars, and burns all over that little girl’s body?”

Brad pushed the copy of the X-ray images and the copy of the medical report toward them. Both of them looked down again.

Mark tightened his jaw.

“We don’t know who did that.” Rose said, making the anger explode inside of me.

I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm and focused. I should have left my gun in my locker. I couldn’t promise that I wouldn’t use it on this bitch.

I glanced at Brad, and I could tell that he was having the same problem. His jaw was clenched tight, and he was taking deep breaths. He had a daughter, and I knew that it was hard for him not to look at this situation from a parent’s perspective.

I looked back at Mark and Rose. Mark was still staring at the papers with a furious look on his face. Rose was staring at me, clenching her fists.

I took another deep breath and forced myself to calm down.

“So you didn’t know about these injuries until now?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

“No.” Rose said angrily.

“These injuries are pretty serious.” I said, pointing at the papers on the table. “You’ve never noticed that your daughter was hurt and in pain? You are a nurse. How did you miss this?”

Rose tightened her jaw. Mark looked up at me, narrowing his eyes.

“Our daughter always kept to herself.” Mark said. “She never told us that anyone hurt her. It was probably a bully from school.”

“Thank you for telling us.” Rose said before Brad or I could speak. “We will discuss it with her as soon as you let us go.”

Brad snorted, making Mark and Rose look at him angrily.

“Do you really think that we are buying this crap?” Brad said angrily, leaning toward them. “You are not leaving. You kidnapped and tortured that poor little girl. You will rot in jail for the rest of your miserable lives.”

Mark clenched his fists and tightened his jaw.

“We didn’t do shit!” he screamed. “She is our daughter! We didn’t kidnap her, and we didn’t abuse her! She is a lying little bitch! Bring her back and let us the fuck go!”

I clenched my fists again, using all of the energy inside my body to stop myself from standing up and punching the shit out of the bastard.

“Why did you take her?” I asked, ignoring his outburst completely.

“We didn’t take her!” Rose shouted, slamming her hand on the table as best she could considering that she was cuffed to it.

“Why. Did. You. Take. Her?” I repeated the question, emphasizing each word.

Rose tightened her jaw, leaning back on the chair she was sitting on.

“Bring the little bitch back and I will tell you.” Mark said, making me look at him.

He was smirking at me.

Oh, fucker!

“What?” I asked, gritting my teeth.

“You heard me.” he said as he leaned back on the chair. “Bring the little bitch back and I will tell you everything.”

“No.” Brad said, tightening his jaw. “You won’t lay eyes on that little girl again.”

“We have enough evidence against you to put you away for a very long time.” I said before Mark or Rose could speak. “I don’t fucking need to know why.”

“You are right.” Mark nodded. “You don’t need to know why. But you do need to know who kidnapped her. It wasn’t me, but if you bring her back, I will tell you who it was.”

Motherfucker.

I glanced at Rose. She was staring at her husband, wide-eyed.

Was he telling the truth? Did someone else take her? Did someone give her to them? Was the kidnapper still out there? Was the kidnapper still a threat to Aria and her family?

I glanced at Brad. He had a very pissed-off look on his face.

Fuck.

I stood up abruptly and left the interrogation room. I heard Brad following after me.

“What do we do?” Brad asked as soon as he closed the door behind us.

I could hear the fucker laughing, and I wanted to go back inside and place a bullet between his eyes.

“I need to talk to Henry.” I said, walking toward my office.

I grabbed my jacket and my car keys and left the station.
