Henry POV

I was just finishing up my rounds when my phone rang.

It was Owen.

“Can you please finish up this one?” I asked my coworker as I gave him the patient’s chart. “I need to take this call.”

“Of course.” doctor Brown said.

I nodded and left the patient’s room.

“What happened?” I asked as soon as I picked up the call.

“I’m just calling to share some good news.” Owen said.

“What are you charging them with?” I asked as I hurried toward my office.

“Mark and Rose will be charged with kidnapping, child abuse, and neglect.” Owen said, making my heart race. “Roger will be charged with abuse of a minor.”

I entered my office just in time to clench my fists angrily.

“That’s it?” I asked. “What about attempted kidnapping?”

I was pissed as fuck. I wanted him locked up and gone. For good.

“We can’t charge him with that, Henry.” Owen sighed. “He never actually tried to take her. It wouldn’t be kidnapping even if his plan had worked. She would go to him of her own free will.”

My vision reddened. As if I would have let that happen. I would kill the fucker with my own two hands.

“So what?” I asked, trying to stop myself from destroying my office. “The fucker will be out of jail in a few years?”

If my daughter were to be in danger again because of him, I would burn the fucking world down.

“We will do everything we can, Henry.” Owen said calmly. “He isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. He shared quite a lot about abusing her and threatening to rape her. We have a recording of that  and the prosecutor will use it in court. He won’t get off with only a few years.”

It was a good thing I left the station when I did. If I stayed any longer, I would have killed him.

When I heard him talk about touching my daughter and admiring her soft skin, my vision blackened, and I was more than ready to end his miserable life. Julian was ready to help me.

I had to get out of there before I did anything that would keep me away from my little girl.

Judging by what Owen just said, I made the right call when I left the station.

“My little girl needs to be safe, Owen.” I said as I tightened my jaw. “She needs to be safe.”

“She will be.” Owen said softly. “They can’t hurt her anymore. No one can hurt her anymore, Henry.”

I felt a lump in my throat, and I had to gulp it down.

“Thank you, Owen.” I said, my voice raspy.

“There is no need to thank me.” Owen said. “That little girl found a way into my heart. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to keep her safe. You don’t have to worry about them anymore.”

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I hoped that Owen was right.

I heard a knock on my door, and I turned around just in time to see Julian walking in.

He was in scrubs. He must have just finished surgery.

“I have to go, Owen.” I said. “Julian is here.”

“That’s okay.” Owen said. “I will call you with an update.”

“Thank you.” I said as I watched Julian take a seat on the chair in front of my desk.

I hung up the phone and put it in my pocket.

“What did Owen say?” Julian asked as soon as I ended the call.

“They are charging Mark and Rose with kidnapping, child abuse, and neglect.” I said as I sat down in my chair.

“What about that fucker Roger?” Julian asked angrily.

“They are charging him with abuse.” I mumbled.

I still wasn’t happy about it. I wanted him charged with every fucking thing he did or tried to do to my daughter.

“What about kidnapping?” Julian asked angrily.

“Owen said that they couldn’t charge him with that.” I sighed. “He never took her.”

I saw fury in Julian’s eyes.

“So he will be out in a few years.” Julian said, clenching his fists.

“Well, no.” I sighed as I ran my fingers through my hair. “Apparently, he talked a lot about abusing her and threatening to rape her. Owen said that they have it on tape. The prosecutor will use it in the trial.”

Julian tightened his jaw, and I saw him gulp.

“It’s a good thing that we left when we did.” Julian said coldly. “I would have killed him.”

“Me too.” I nodded.

I took a deep breath and looked at the watch on my left hand. I had to go. I had surgery in half an hour.

“I have to go.” I said as I stood up. “I have a surgery.”

Julian nodded and stood up.

“How is Aria?” Julian asked as he followed me out of my office.

“She is okay.” I said smiling softly. “I let her stay home this week.”

“And Gabriel?” Julian asked.

“He refused to leave her, so he is home as well.” I said as we entered the surgical wing. “He is very overprotective. I’m a little worried about him, to be honest.”

Julian nodded and ran his fingers through his hair.

“I understand him.” Julian said. “If something like that had happened to Jo, I would have glued her to me.”

“I know.” I said with a small smile. “I’m still worried about him. I will need to talk to him about it.”

We stopped in front of my OR.

“If you need me, I’m here.” Julian said as he placed his hand on my shoulder. “Gabriel means the world to me. You know that.”

“I do.” I said. “I will let you know if I need your help.”

“Okay.” Julian said and gave me a small smile. “Go do your job now.”

I smiled and put my mask on.

I opened the OR door and walked inside.

I took a deep breath and forced myself to focus on my job.

I couldn’t wait to go back home to my kids. I couldn’t wait to see my little girl.
