Chapter 27: You (Grace's POV)

"The sun's going down. We should get out of the water," he mumbled, glancing over at all our stuff.

I giggled, putting my arms around his neck and leaning in closer. "No."

He tightened his arms around my waist as I kissed him. I rested one hand on the back of his neck before pulling away slowly. "Let's go," he said softly.

I sighed in defeat before nodding. We got out of the river and walked back to the blanket, both of us staring down at our clothes, realizing we had no towels. "It's fine," I shrugged. "It doesn't matter." I looked down at myself, only wearing my bra and underwear which both matched with the dress.

He chuckled, grabbing my dress and holding it out for me to take.

I reached for the dress but he pulled it back. I clicked my tongue in frustration and leaned forward only for him to pull it away. "Give to me," I laughed, stepping forward.

He grabbed my wrist and jerked me forward before locking me there with an arm around my waist so I was flush against him. We stared at each other silently for a minute before he leaned down, pecking my cheek and handing me the dress.

I smiled, pulling away and putting on the dress while he pulled his shirt and jeans back on before we packed up and walked back through the trail. We could see the car when Ronan stopped abruptly and grabbed my arm, pulling me to a halt. I stopped, turning to look at him. "What happened?"

"Wait here."

I followed his gaze to the car, spotting two guys circling the car. Ronan began walking to the car but I stopped him, grabbing his arm. "Ronan." He turned toward me, his eyebrows raised. "Don't..." I sighed. "Just be careful."

He nodded reassuringly and handed me the basket before walking over. I know that it's part of his job. We're here hiding, on a getaway, but this is still his job. To keep me safe, no matter what, even if that means putting himself at risk.

I don't know who the two guys are, I don't know if someone sent them, I don't know if they have a weapon on them or anything either. I don't know anything, basically, which is one of the things I hate the most about situations like this. I watched as Ronan walked over, standing on this side of the car while they stood on the other side. Ronan rested his hands on the hood of the car and asked them something.

The two looked at each other before one of them answered Ronan's question.

Ronan replied with something before nodding towards the trail, dismissively. The two of them left after that. Ronan relaxed a bit before walking back over, taking the basket out of my hands.

"What happened?" I questioned while we started walking to the car.

"They were just snooping around because they saw an empty car. It's fine." We slipped back inside the car and he started driving, dropping the car at his grandmother's house before we started walking over to his. "My grandmother asked about you."
