▶ One More Light ~ Linkin Park

^^ this song.

⚠️ Suicide, self harm, substances ⚠️

Jungkook's heart broke into a thousand pieces as the clock struck twelve. He knew there was no way he could make it and say goodbye to Taehyung, the love of his life, who was now on his way to Paris.

Jungkook stared at the flowers and the small cake he had bought for Taehyung, sitting sadly on the table in the hospital room.

Everything had gone terribly wrong.

Everything.

A feral ache in his chest bloomed as he listened to the monotonous heart monitor, its beeps providing little bit of hope. He was so so glad he trusted his gut and went to Jimin first.

Tae would understand. He would convince him, even though the last conversation they had, he had been accused of the very thing he did just now - forgot everything for Jimin.

But this time, it was justified. He couldn't lose a friend, not again. This time, he had reached his Jimin and saved him.

Something he wasn't able to do for Jaesang, his best friend, five years ago.

Jungkook held Jimin's cold hand. His Jimin, his best friend, the first friend he'd made in Seoul. Jungkook wished he could absorb the pain he was in, he would take it in a second if he could. Exhausted, he let his head rest against Jimin's frail form, letting the tears come.

Jungkook sobbed - in relief, in regret. He could feel his heart struggling to get out of his chest, the grief gripping like a vice, suffocating him, crushing his ribcage. He wanted to apologise to Taehyung and to Jimin, feeling like he failed them both.

He cried and cried, his whole being and soul aching.

He almost lost his Jiminie. He had already lost Yoongi. Now he had lost his Taehyung. The only person Jungkook ever fell deeply in love with.

The tidal wave of pain felt like it would drown him.

"Come back to me Chim," he whispered, sniffling.

It was so cold in the drab hospital room, just like how he felt inside. He was the happiest person on the planet just a few weeks ago and now he felt like he wouldn't survive the misery.

Fixing his appearance a bit, he went to the nurse's station where he had left his phone to charge. He switched it on and Jungkook thought it would burst with the amount of notifications popping up.

He winced. The nurse, having returned from her nightly rounds, gave him curious glances which he tried to ignore.

Nearly a hundred miss calls from Tae, Hoseok, Bright, Kiara, Seokjin and Namjoon. There were even more texts from Kiara. They were all angry and full of threats but he could read the underlying disappointment.

More tears trailed down his face. He was aware of how big of a failure he was but nothing mattered because Jimin was safe. He knew they would feel bad for yelling at him when they found out about Chim.

He sent Namjoon a quick text of the hospital address, room number and the situation in brief. He didn't trust himself to speak on call. He thanked the nurse and went back to Jimin's bedside.

He was aware he should have taken someone's phone and informed someone else, but in his panic, in his need to rush Jimin here, he hadn't bothered with anything until he was sure his best friend was in stable condition.
