This poem was inspired by a book character in Jojo Moyes' book, Me Before You.

WARNING! SPOILER ALERT!

--------

You didn't like to interact with anyone
You were keen on pushing them away
Because you prefer being alone
Than with people who stay out of pity
You were emotional, bad-tempered, and harsh
Even Lou called you an arse
But even then, your presence means a lot
You made her once dull and flat life became interesting
You made her alive, not just about exist

So when you decided to go,
You bring sadness
To your parents, to Nathan, to us readers,
But especially to Lou

She did everything for you
She left her long-time boyfriend just for you,
You, the man who hide in his castle on the other side of town
You, the man she only known for the past 6 months
She basically threw her previous life to a corner
And dedicated her life for you.
How could anyone miss that fact?

I know you're incapable of doing almost anything,
I know you miss your old-self,
I know you hate being helped,
But is it not enough to live with all the love you received?
You don’t even have to give them anything,
You don’t even have to love them back,
You just have to live,
And let them take care of you
Let them love you.

You told Lou to live boldly,
But you didn’t even want to live
You told Lou to push herself
But you didn’t even push yourself to stay alive
You told Lou to not settle, to go places,
But you didn’t even intend to be her company

Tell me, Will
Who’s gonna busied Nathan?
Who’s gonna make your parents worried?
Who’s gonna see Lou wearing that bumblebee tights?
Who’s gonna live?

Not you.

You really are an arse,
Choosing to die than live with us.
