I Had To

When we were driving to school , I was surprised that Alex could put down his phone and drive .
Once we got there , Alex just left .
I went to Cathy and Ally and said "Morning ".
"Morning ". They both said.

Cathy looked at me and asked me " Your not having a good morning . Are you ?".
I couldn't lie to her because she will know that I was lying to her.
"No . Since Alex woke up , he couldn't stop texting on his phone ".
"Who could he be texting that early in the morning ?". Ally asked .

"I don't know ". I said .
"Don't worry about that. Come on lets go get our stuff for class ".
And my first class was Math which was with Alex.
I hope he pays attention in class and doesn't text in class .
When Math class started , Alex wasn't there.
When it was the end of Math class , Alex still hadn't come to class .

I walked out of class and saw Alex walking and talking with his friends .
I wanted to go to him and ask him  why he didn't come to class but I decided I will do that later .
I went to my next class which was English .

Alex was in English class with me but he was sitting next to a girl.
I wondered if that was the person Alex was texting this morning .
English class was over and Alex and the girl went to lunch together .

I went to my lunch table and tried to act okay .
"Hey guys ". I said putting on a fake smile .
"Hey ". They both said .
"Beth , don't forget that tomorrow that we have to be with Cathy to see her boyfriend ". Ally said.
"Okay ".

Alex came over to my lunch table and sat down and said "Hey guys ".
We all said at the same time "Hey ".
He went straight into the point and said "Beth , one : Here is your keys ". He said as he pulled them out of pockets .

"And two : I can't drop you off at home . You have to ask either one of them for a ride home ". He said as he was pointing to Cathy and Ally .
"Why ?". I asked .
He didn't say anything and just left .
"What a jerk ". Cathy and Ally said .
"Yeah ". I said in a sad way.
"Its okay . You don't need him . You got us ".

I just nodded and then the bell rang .
I had Drama next . Like if there isn't enough of that in my life .
I went to the class and then the class ended.
Cathy and Ally were waiting for me in front .
Alex was walking with his friends , when he saw me .

He told his friends something and came to me.
I tried my best to get my things quickly but that didn't work .
"Beth , I know your mad at me but  if I told you -
I cut him off and pretended to not know what he was talking about and said "What are you talking about ?" and then I left .

I saw Cathy and Ally and Cathy asked "Ready ?".
"Yeah ". I said with a fake smile on .
We drove to my house and they stayed for awhile until Alex 's car came up in the driveway .
They waved me a goodbye and thumbs up for good luck .

"Hey ". Alex said once me and him reached inside .
I didn't answer him and went up to my room .
"Beth , you can't ignore me ". He said coming into my room with me also .
"What are you -
"Don't say that. You know what I am talking about ".

"Alex , I don't care what you had to do ".
" But you do care " .
"No I do not Alex ".
"Bethy -
"Stop calling me that ".
"Fine , Beth . I am sorry ".
"I don't know why you're apologizing when I don't care ".
"Fine , live in denial ". He said as he went to the bathroom .

I didn't want Alex to know that he is right. 
I just went straight to bed but I couldn't sleep. 
Alex finally came to bed , but before he went into the bed , he came by my side of the bed and said " I know you don't want to admit it but I am sorry . I had to move on ".

And then he kissed my head .
I couldn't stop thinking about what he said .
