I had just put down my pen to take a few minutes to ponder why maths was in the school's curriculum at all and why I hadn't been born with a penchant for the subject seeing as it was necessary for survival in high school when I received a text from an unknown number.

Unknown number: hey love

Love, I scrunched my brows in beffudlement. Could this be Cole? But he usually texted with a private number.

Me: who's this?

Unknown number: The one, the only. The one and only

Unknown number: *insert drumroll*

Unknown number: Josh

I burst into laughter at that, it was Josh.

Me: Josh 😂, yooo

I quickly saved his number

Josh: wah gwan sis?

Me: huh, what does that mean?

Josh: it's Jamaican patois for what's going on? What's happening? What's up girl?

Josh: glad I could teach you something today. *Adjusts clothes in self importance*

Me: 😅😅 oh

Me: I'm doing fine wbu?

Josh: okayish, I came up with an idea actually

Me: go ahead

Josh: it's cara's birthday tomorrow and I'd like us to do something for her.

Josh: quick disclaimer: it is with trembling shame I'm forced to confess it wasn't actually my idea, I can't remember birthdays to save my life.

Me: LMAO

The disclaimer part was funny

Me: so what're we to do?

Jokes aside, I was eager to help

Josh: let's visit a store and get her something nice, not a very original or sweet, lovey dovey idea I know. But it's the best I could come up with and what's that popular saying?

Josh: it's the thought that counts right?

Me: I guess so

Josh: so you ready to go?

Me: ready? It's right away? Like now, immediately?

Josh: yupp, I apologise for it being on short notice *doffs imaginary hat*

Josh: would you rather wait till it's 7pm? It's fine by me either way

Me: Josh!!!

Josh: please

Josh: I'll drive you to the store and back, it'll be no stress at all(not promised though). But Pretty please

Me: How long will it take for you to get here?

Josh: about twenty minutes, so by 4:20pm, I'll be at your doorstep.

Me: you still remember where I live?

Josh: yes, and it's all thanks to the amazing confectionery store not too far away from where you live.
