I love you, I hate you,
My feelings are all askew,
You're the one who gave me life,
But also caused me so much strife.

We've been through it all,
The ups and downs, the rise and fall,
I've loved you more than I can say,
But you've hurt me in so many ways.

You were my protector, my guide,
But also the one who made me hide,
The one who made me feel small,
And tore me down when I stood tall.

We've had our moments of laughter,
But also times when I felt like a disaster,
You were there for me when I needed you,
But also the one who made me feel so blue.

I hate the way you make me feel,
The pain and hurt that's all too real,
But I can't help but love you still,
Even though you've caused me so much ill.

I wish things could be different,
That our love wasn't so inconsistent,
But no matter how much we fight,
I know our love will be alright.

For we are bound by blood and heart,
Our love hate relationship a work of art,
We'll always be connected in some way,
And that's something that will never sway.

GENRE: PERSONAL/CONFESSIONAL

The poem you have just read is a reflection of the complex emotions that can exist between a parent and child. It speaks to the love-hate relationship that can arise when someone who is supposed to be your protector and guide also causes you pain and hurt.

This poem was written from personal experience, and I wanted to capture the conflicting emotions that I have felt towards my own parent at times. While our relationships with our parents can be challenging and complicated, they also have the potential to be the most meaningful and rewarding relationships we will ever have. This poem is a reminder that even though we may have our differences and struggles, the bond between parent and child is unbreakable.
