this isn't really a tip but i've decided to compile a list of things i did and didn't like about the movies

WILL INCLUDE SPOILERS FOR THE DEATH CURE- YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

The Maze Runner

disliked:

-thomas sprinting toward the maze and zart yelling, "we've got a runner!!!!!"

-the griever serum being with teresa

-the fact that teresa was hardly even in the movie??? she woke up and disappeared after talking to thomas i guess

-"nobody has EVER seen [a griever] and lived to tell about it"

-the fact thomas didn't speak with minho prior to risking his life to save him. at least in the books they had a few conversations beforehand

-thomas: "I REMEMBER MY NAME. IT'S THOMAS!!"

*three seconds of silence*

everyone: "THOMASSMSIAKSMWKA THOAMS RAMA,T AIAKS"

-they made it so blatantly obvious chuck was going to die

-the grievers going on a rampage instead of taking one a night

-minho throwing a spear at gally (because does that mean he's not coming back in TDC???)

-THEY DIDN'T INCLUDE MY FAVORITE QUOTES: "if you ain't scared, you ain't human," AND "be careful. don't die," "great, we're all bloody inspired"

-newt was too much of the savior trope and gally was too much of the classic mean guy trope

liked:

-you could really see the bond between the gladers

-the bonfire scene (':

-the sky was actually real. if you think about it, how did a fake sun have the power to give the gladers vitamin D, grow the plants, and not have the white people get super pale?? two years with no sunlight whatsoever is very damaging.

lack of sufficient sunlight is linked to: heart disease, DEPRESSION, the prevention of obesity, premature death, and about 48491 other things. so yeah, the fact that the sky was real in the movie was great

-they made alby a lot nicer and more chill. in the books he was temperamental, constantly angry, and just...he got on my nerves.

-thOMINHO AND NEWTMAS

-teresa throwing stuff at the boys. that was gold.

-a lot of people complain about newt "not having a limp" but thomas brodie-sangster actually put a rock in his shoe to remind him of it. you can really notice him limping when they're running toward the griever battle place

-the maze was super cool

-"hey, throw one more of those things- OW!"

-frypan's sass was ON POINT

-that scene where they went to the maze to see the dead griever was iconic

-showing everyone crying about chuck's death, even minho (who would normally fall into the Tough Guy trope)

The Scorch Trials

disliked:

-a critic described the movie as "fleeing in terror: the movie" and after some pondering, i actually agree with it. there was no set destination- they were just running all over the place and just so happened to run to exactly the right destinations. i wish they would have kept the actual "trials" aspect. it honestly could have just been called The Scorch

-brenda and thomas hardly had any bonding so they nearly kissed like 2 hours after meeting each other (they were drugged but still)

-the betrayal. this was so much better in the books, when jdash had teresa really explain herself. i love teresa and i feel like this was out of character for her that she'd just call W.I.C.K.E.D back after they spent so long running from them.

-they never really foreshadowed newt having the flare with the mood swings and whatnot. he just continued to be The Savior

-were there a ton of mazes??? and did group b just abandon aris?? why was he always alone eating his cornbread??

-they never made brenda and jorge a part of W.I.C.K.E.D

-they didn't have the tattoos ):

-aris wasn't the partner

-DID THEY EVEN EAT THE ENTIRE TIME THEY WERE IN THE SCORCH

liked:

-THOMAS FLIPPING JANSON OFF THAT WAS AMAZING THAT WAS ICONIC

-the cranks were super creepy

-again, they showed bonding and friendships not just centered around the ivy trio

-teresa got screentime

-minho fricken taking a guy out with HIS KNEE

-thomas and teresa actually talked more than once unlike in the TMR movie

-janson was just as annoying as he was in the books

-THOMINHO AND NEWTMAS

-minho. he was amazing. he was the real savior of this movie

-JORGE BLASTING HIS FAVORITE SONG

-FRYPAN DOING STUFF

-you could really feel the sadness during the winston scene

-that one guy going like "WOOOOOOO" and shooting everyone in sight

- T H O M I N H O

-the tears in thomas' eyes when they were taking minho

-boys having emotions and not being afraid to display them!!

-the scene with thomas dreaming he's back in the box. that almost gave me a heart attack

-"i made a promise to minho"

-literally the entire next movie is going to be minho-centered and i'm so ready for it

---

idk if you can tell but i'm not the kind of person who thinks that if a movie doesn't follow the books exactly, it's the worst thing the box office has seen. i'm fine with changes. i understand that some things cannot be done in the movie industry and they have to stay within the budget as well. that's just my opinion.

the movies were good if you look at them from the perspective of a person who hasn't read the books. however, i do understand those who prefer to have the movies follow the books and therefore aren't too fond of these. but the movies weren't all that bad.

then again there are movies like city of bones and that was just awful so i guess it depends on the movie itself
