If you saw the Greek gods
At dusk
You would be awed
Not by Aphrodite
Although the way the
Lasts rays of the golden hour
Flicker upon her face
Nearly capturing the beautiful serenity
Within her eyes,
No, Aphrodite's beauty would not be
The thing that awed youNor would Zeus' might
Awe you
Even as he stands there
Boldly ordering the clouds
To drift away from the setting sun
So that he may gaze at the beauty
Captured upon Aphrodite's face
No, Zeus's power would not
Awe you.Alas, you would not even be awed
By the alluring Poseidon
Though he is radiant
In the way that the forming stars
Shimmer upon his 7 seas'
No, Poseidon's brilliance
Would not awe youThe one who would awe you
Would be Hephaestus
Hephaestus, the only ugly god
A god surrounded by
Flawless and divine immortals
Hephaestus possessed the power of fire
He could harness the sun
His hands sculpted
any formation he wishes
He built the god's homes
Their palace
He built their furnishings
Their god slaying weapons
Hephaestus was the cursed god
Doomed to be unseen by the gods
Destined to be shunned for his ugliness
And cursed with the highest of powerIndeed, if you looked upon the gods
As dusk
You would be awed by Hephaestus
For you are mortal
And only mortals can appreciate
Can marvel
Can behold
The power and beauty of Hephaestus
