I Love | Poem

I love.

Despite my mother's constant bashing of love.

Despite my parents falling out of love.

Despite the bitter remarks I hear from my mother.

Despite the absence of my father and the empty seat at the dinner table.

Despite the failed attempt to fix their relationship.

I love.

Despite the number of times I've been called fat, ugly, stupid, unlovable.

Despite the taunts and the pushes.

Despite the insecurities and the false air of confidence.

Despite the lack of a "perfect body" and a "perfect face".

Despite the lack of romantic love.

Despite the lack of attraction people had to me.

Despite the masses of people that constantly slipped in and out of my life.

Despite everything, 

I love.
