David led the group through the jungle, slashing through the thick groves of plants that stood in their way as Hook advised them on their journey through the forest. Y/n heard animals all around her, but it was not the comforting call of a songbird, nor the hoof steps of a deer running by. These animals were screeching in the night, making her fear every turn and every corner of the island of Neverland. It certainly was more dreary than the movie she watched as a child, but not from the storybook she read.

"The ridge is just a few hundred paces up ahead," Hook said, looking back at the group behind him and David.

"You really think we're gonna be able to see Pan's hideout?" Emma asked, coming through a thick brush of bamboo.

"From there, we should be able to see everything. Including where he's keeping your son," Hook said, glancing back to Emma before continuing forward.

"You know, I could have just poofed us up here in an instant," Regina claimed, looking around at their area.

"Where? Have you any idea what's up here? Or anywhere?" Hook questioned her, and Regina came up cold. "There are dangers all about. Only I can guide us past them."

"Hook's the only one of us who's been here before. If he says to hike, we should listen," Y/n stated, and Hook gave her a slight grin, to which she looked away.

"Here, you need to stay hydrated," Mary Margaret said to Emma, giving her a canteen of water.

"Thanks, Mary Margaret," Emma said, taking a drink of water. From the look on Mary Margaret's face, this was a conversation Y/n didn't want to stick around for, so she walked up closer to Regina and Hook, keeping up behind them.

Y/n came up just behind them as David went to slash through a large thorny bush, but Hook grabbed his arm before he could. "No. No!" Hook said when David tried to break the vines once more.

David ripped his arm from Hook's grip, looking at him in annoyance and saying, "I can handle a couple of thorns."

"That's dreamshade," Hook said, looking at the thorns. "It's not the thorns you have to worry about. It's the poison they inject you with. This plant is the source of the toxins I used on the Dark One."

"The poison that almost killed Gold?" Emma questioned, looking past her sister and Regina at the dripping thorns. Each one of them was coated with a dark purple sap, the poison leaking from each thorn and dripping to the ground.

"Indeed. I used a concentrated dose. In it's natural form, death would be much slower and far more painful," Hook said, and looked around for a way out. Gesturing to his right, he said, "I suggest we go this way."

David, however, hated taking advice from a pirate, and looked to his left at another, more skinnier path that was closer to the dreamshade, but more direct to their destination. "We'll go this way," he said, and started off as Regina, Mary Margaret, and Emma followed.

Y/n went to followed after her sister, but Hook remained, saying, "Your father's a distrustful fellow."

Y/n cleared her throat a bit and said, "Yeah, well, he's not one for working with the bad guy."

"I can assure you, on this island, I am not the bag guy," Hook said as Y/n went to follow the others, Hook behind her.

"According to almost every story told in our world, Pan's not supposed to be one either," Y/n said, making sure her arms were covered as they passed by the dreamshade.

"Well, they got it wrong," Hook stated, following her closely. "Pan is the most treacherous villain I've ever faced."

"I said 'almost' every story," Y/n claimed, looking back on him with a lifted lip. "The original story was far, far more gruesome than the one Disney decided to retcon, trust me."
