The council came out of the closed off room looking grave. Caroline stood up and made her way over to her uncles.
"Did you get any information?" she asked softly.
"There was none to give," said Simon, his gaze empty.
Kasumi shook her head. "Once again, we failed, and we paid for it."
Caroline didn't know what to say to that. Instead she turned to Hugh and Simon. "Can I talk to you guys?"
The two men exchanged a look. "Of course, Caroline," said Hugh.
She led them to a corner of the lobby.
"I want to leave the Renegades," she said.
They both stared at her in shock.
"Why would you want to do that?" Simon asked finally.
She shrugged. "I really enjoyed my time on the team. But the last few months have been so chaotic. I'm not sure if I want this for myself."
Hugh nodded slowly. "I understand. This job isn't for everyone. What would you do instead?"
"I was thinking of going to college. Maybe major in something like writing, or art. I don't know. I could still live in Gatlon City with you."
They were both smiling. "I think that's a wonderful idea, Carrie."
Caroline smiled back. "Great. Thanks for understanding."
