Chapter 32: Closer

AN: hope you are all enjoying. This chapter was really hard to re-edit because I recently lost my dad this past summer. I wasn't as close to him as Elizabeth is hers but it still hurt. And we actually used to fight about my writing. He was not very supportive and called it a waste of time. But he did teach me home improvement stuff which is where we did bond. So he would be happy to know that when I'm not writing I am remodeling the house. Much love to you all.

More towers than Trump, more bucks than Bloomberg. Bart Bass definitely made his mark on Manhattan. The passing of a public figure can shake a whole town, but the real story is always the one happening in private, away from the headlines, at home.

Elizabeth walked up to the Archibald door as Nate stepped out.

"Hey" she said and he kissed her. "How's Chuck?"

"Haven't heard from him but Blair mentioned that he is alive so that's good"

"I can't imagine what he's going through. If anything happened to my dad I'd be distraught and I'm a lot closer to my dad then Chuck was Bart"

"He'll have us. His friends"

"Maybe you should swing by the Palace. See how he is?" she said putting her hands on his shoulders.

"Come with me" he replied.

"I'll just meet you at the Church" she replied "Chuck is your best friend. He needs you, he doesn't need me in the way. Maybe Blair can go with. I know how she feels about him, I'm sure she's concerned about him too"

She was concerned about him as well but she didn't want to make Nate suspicious. He was already a little suspicious of her actions at the hospital. She didn't leave Chuck's side the whole night.

"I'll call her" he said.

Nate kissed her and they got in the cab.

She arrived at the Church running into her brother. She linked her arm with his and they walked over to the steps. Aaron stood there.

"Hey Aaron" she said.

"Good seeing you Lizzie" he replied as Dan's phone buzzed.

"That was Serena. She'll be here soon." Dan said as Aaron too was checking his phone.

"Yeah I got that" Aaron said.

"Well I got it first"

"Yeah, well it's probably my service"

"Wow guys" Elizabeth said as a cab pulled up and Jenny got out "J, hey"

Jenny hugged her siblings.

"I just talked to Eric. He said they're almost here"

"That's old news" Elizabeth said glancing between the guys. "Tweedledee and Tweedledum over here already broke it"

A limo pulled up and the Van der Woodsen's got out. Eric walked over.
