Aster had invited Marco to attend one of his family's traditional events. A sort of family reunion, just...more violence.

The Butterflies had various branch families, all of whom were nobles now. All of them prided themselves on their skill and etiquette, to the point that all of them, aside from Aster, were intolerable pricks with sticks up their asses.

The Johanssons on the other hand were only family to them because River, their former prince, married Moon, the queen of Mewni. The Johanssons were all some variation of warriors, who valued strength above all else. They lacked any form of proper manners and would rather eat what they hunt than the food that's prepared for them.

Aster and Marco were seated next to each other near Aster's parents, who were both decently acquainted with Marco at this point. Marco was still nervous around them, though.

"Alright, don't say anything even remotely political. In fact, maybe you shouldn't say anything at all." - A

"Why?" - M

"My dad's side and my mom's side of the family don't get along. Ever. The slightest disagreement usually leads to-" - A

He got cut off as his (Johansson) uncle began to fight his other (Butterfly) uncle.

"A brawl..." - A

"Huh...does it ever get tiring?" - M

"Of course it does. But that's why I invited you. Every year, my mom has an event planned that gets both sides of my family to stop fighting. Both sides have the same value that the winner of a war, battle, or competition gets bragging rights. So regardless of who wins the event, we get to have a mostly peaceful dinner." - A

"Cool! What kind of events?" - M

"Well, last year was sword fighting. The year before that was war games." - A

"You don't mean like...with actual swords, right?" - M

"Of course I do. How do you think my Uncle Cyrus lost his arms?" - A

He pointed to a man on the other side of the table with bulging muscular arms that obviously weren't originally his. Marco gulped a bit.

"Don't worry. Between your agility and my magic, we got this in the bag regardless of what the game is." - A

He said as Moon stood up to announce the game.

"Everyone! Quiet down, please. As you know, we hold an annual game to help bring our families closer. This year's event will be a special one, as it's the first one with my son, Aster, joining us. And so, we've prepared a special event. I present to you, Flag Mountain!" - Moon

She said as she gestured for everyone in the banquet hall of Butterfly Castle to look out of a window towards a nearby mountain which had been terraformed. It had various small regions as you went higher up. Rocky terrains, forests, rains, lava, etc.

Marco's face went slightly pale. But he figured Aster had a plan...

Moon explained the rules.

Rule 1 - No killing.

Rule 2 - that's it.

Then she explained how the game would work. Each family member would receive a flag depending on whether they were a Johansson or a Butterfly. Both teams would have to try and reach the top of the mountain and place their team's flag on the top before the enemy team.

Sabotage was allowed, to make it more interesting. Which made everyone happy...

Moon pulled Aster aside while everyone began getting ready for the games.
