A couple weeks later...

*Djs POV*

It had been awhile since I'd last seen Jayon. Maybe a total of 3 weeks or longer.

Amber was leaving the hospital today though, which made me almost forget about Jayon's existence.

The past 3 weeks were rough, I cried and reminisced so much. I didn't know if Jayon was alright, and I never found Derek. I had been keeping in touch with Amber though every since she woke up out of her deep sleep.

She didn't believe she had been in a small coma though when I first got to hear her voice over the phone. Her voice was different but I still felt her enthusiasm. That phone call was honestly a blessing, hearing her being able to talk to me was a blessing.

But today was the day I had the opportunity to see her. I knew I would shed tears of joy when I seen her standing, smiling and laughing at me.

I was so anxious, I got no sleep the night before.

But then again, she wasn't the only reason why I wasn't getting any sleep.

"Dj? You ready to go?" Deon knocks on my door. I stand up, putting a smile on my face.

"Yeah," I say opening the door. "Mom ready?" I ask him.

"She's been in the car for like 5 minutes. I came to get you, you didn't hear her horn?" He laughs, racing me down the stairs to the front door.

"Shit!" I say when he gets there before me, that meant I was last to lock the door, also meaning he would get to have the front seat. It was a childish game we grew up playing when we had to go somewhere with our mother.

I grabbed the keys from the counter and locked the door as we both walked out of our house.

It had been 3 weeks, close to a month since I'd last talked to Dj or even seen her. It was like every small moment we had together faded in thin air the longer I hung around Amira. She'd been doing her best to help me find Derek, who had supposedly gotten out of jail a couple days after we had first went to search for him in the jail district.

We were able to have a conversation with him through the jail bars about what had happened the night of his and Ambers disappearance, but bailing him out the first time was a challenge. They wanted money we weren't gonna hand over, so we had to wait for his duration of jail time to be over. It lasted for just a week anyway.

Amira had been right about me needing to use her number. Turns out, I needed entertainment. Something she had experience with handing me.

I didn't wanna call Dj first, or text her for that matter. And when she didn't do the same in return I figured our little infatuation wasn't meant to last after all. It was sad at first, then I realized that I didn't need her. I did wonder what she was up too though.

"Are we going out today?" Amira's voice caught my attention.

"For what?" I take a blow from the vape I had plastered in my fingers.

"I'm assuming our search for your friend Derek is over," she questioned, crossing her arms.

"Yeah, I mean no. I don't know. He hasn't showed up for any of the apartment parties since he's gotten out. Maybe he just doesn't wanna be found," I take another blow.

"But what about Dj's-"

"Look, that's over. If we find him now it will be because we found him, not for Dj, not for her friend, not for anyone," I cut her off angrily.

I didn't wanna hear Dj's name come out from anyone's mouth.

"I can tell you still have some type of connection to the bitch," Amira rolls her eyes at my irritability.

"Don't call her that," I say.

"See! I hate when you do that shit. Sometimes you care for her and then sometimes you don't. Which one is it Jayon? Because I'm tired of being your booty call. I actually like you and the more time we spend together the more I wanna be with you. I feel like you're using me to get over a girl you only spent 3 days with,"

I cover my ears with the palm of my hands to block out Amira from talking. It was bad enough my thoughts were surfacing to Dj, I didn't need her annoying ass input on her.

"Fuck you," she says, walking out of the room.

We had pulled up to the hospital within minutes. I jumped out of the car as soon as it stopped, yanking my seatbelt away from my chest when I realized it had stopped me from emerging away from the car.

"Dj, slow down," my mother said.

"Mom, you don't understand," I say excitedly. "Seeing Amber is going to be the highlight of the depressing weeks I've been having by myself," I tell her.

She still didn't know about Jayon, which had been good. It was good me and him hadn't spoke, because now I didn't have to introduce him to her.

"Girl please," she says, throwing her hands in a whatever motion.

We make our way inside the building, getting gestured to the room of Amber.

I begin to speed walk to make sure I'm the first one that opens the door to see my best-friend's beautiful face.

"Please if any of you need anything, just call out to one of us in the hallway. Here is where Amber Kole is staying," the nurse gives us a teethy smile while she walks away, leaving us to open the door.

I quickly make my way inside to see Amber sitting on a couch eating a huge bag of sour cream and onion chips. She had been conversing with a nurse about something she had seen on tv. It was adorable. She turns to me immediately and jumps up, running to me laughing.

I run to her with a tear coming down my face, admiring how healthy she looked vs how she looked almost a month ago. She looked amazing, and smelled even more amazing. I buried my face in the softness of her neck and she had her arms wrapped around my neck. She had wiped her face with a sleeve when she finally let me go.

"You don't know how much I missed you Deej," she tells me.

"No, Amber you don't know how much I missed you," I tell her, looking around her room to see her family sitting by the window, blushing at me and Ambers interactions.

My mother had been smiling at us too, everyone was happy to see us finally being able physically connect again.

Deon and Adrian exchanged awkward looks but neither of them said a word to eachother. I would have to work on them later.

"Thank you guys for coming," Ambers mother tells us. "She's been talking about seeing you all morning,"

"Yeah, she has," her dad joins in, chuckling.

"I'm sure. I'm glad we could make it, she's been waiting to see Amber for awhile," my mother chimes in.

Our parents speak of us like we're little girls, making me and Amber roll our eyes. It was true though, we were still little girls at heart anyway.

From now on, everything would be different with us. I would never let anything happen to her ever again.
