"So you were talking about me and Jayon to Armaj? The girl who ruined my childhood, who never had a problem with stealing my things?" My mind had been flustered with what Amber had just told me. What she was saying was weird, and it didn't make sense. Either that, or I just had a drunken brain that wasn't fully awake to understand what her point was behind all of this.

"Because she asked me who he was. I don't know why she came to me about him, but all I was doing was being honest Dj. Me and her aren't friends,"

"Maybe she came to you about it because you were the only teen here she wasn't related too," I roll my eyes. It was obvious why Armaj wanted to do this.

"That makes sense," Amber shrugs. "Who cares though? She's irrelevant just like you said,"

"Well, did anything else happen?" I ask her.

Her face changes and her expression becomes noticeably uncomfortable. It bugged me.

"Amber?" I say.

"Well I seen them talking outside your house. I don't know what they were talking about but, I seen them through the window. They didn't know I was staring at them but I was,"

"What?" My heart had dropped, but I didn't let it show. I wasn't going to cry, I wasn't going to shed one tear. I was done giving Jayon the benefit of the doubt.

"Don't panic Dj, they could have been talking about anything,"

"But why were they talking AT ALL?" I raise my voice. I wasn't worried about the children who had been sleeping. They should have been picked up by now. Why did people think it was okay to leave children at someone's house just because they were related?

"I don't know Dj," she shrugs. "Why don't you ask him?"

"My phone is still broken. I have to wait for him to call me to even answer it,"

"Use mine, I'm sure he's still awake," Amber reaches into her pocket, handing me her phone.

"He is," I say, beginning to dial his number. I knew it by heart now.

Amber took a seat on the stool, sighing. She was tired.

"We never even got to talk," I tell her, putting the phone to my ear. "About us,"

"I know," she rolls her eyes. "Tomorrow for sure, but Dj, I'm tired. I'm gonna go lay in Deon's  bed. He's clearly sleeping down here for the night, so tell me what Jayon said qin the morning, I love you,"

"It is tomorrow, but I love you too," I tell her. The phone had just stopped ringing, and I instantly heard his voice.

"Who dis?" He answered childishly.

"It's Dj," I say. I wanted to smile, but I was too annoyed with him to do so.

Amber had been half-way up the stairs, staring at me to make sure I would be okay with being on the phone with him. I nodded to her and she nodded back, continuing to make her way all the way up the stairs.

"Dj?" His voice went back to normal. "You good?"

"I'm fine," I lied.

"You don't sound fine," he said. There had been yelling in the background, it had sounded like a guy that was around Jayon's age.

"Yo shut the fuck up!" Jayon yelled back.

"Jayon? Who are you with?" I ask him, getting concerned.

"He's my cousin. He came over today for the fourth but now he's gonna end up staying for a couple days. Were playing the game and he's just getting frustrated, that's all,"

"Ooh," I say. "What game?" I tried to make small talk before I went straight to the point.

"2k, why? What's wrong Dj?"

"I heard about what happened with you and my sister Armaj," I tell him, it had been silent for a couple seconds before I heard a grin over the speaker.

"What happened between us?" He asked.

"That's what I'd like to know," I tell him.

"Not shit Dj. I promise,"

"Then why did Amber just tell me-"

"Fuck what Amber just told you, you need to trust me, I wouldn't ever do no shit like that to you. That's your whole ass sister,"

"Half-ass sister," I correct him. But what he had said did make me feel better. I did trust Jayon, and I wanted him to be able to trust me too.

"Mhm," he mumbled over the phone.

"But Jayon I still wanna know what you guys were talking about. Why were y'all even talking at all?"

"She was drunk Deej," he says, getting me more irritated all over again.

He never called me Deej.

"The fuck?" I question him, hearing him and his cousin laugh over the line. I never cursed, unless I was extremely heated.

"She was drunk. She was being reckless," he repeated.

"She got drunk because I did?" I ask, my temper rising. She had always found some type of way to mimic what I did.

"I'm not sure baby. I just want you to know that nothing happened between us,"

"What was she saying to you?" I asked him.

"A lot of unnecessary things, who cares?"

"I care. I barely said a word to her so what gave her the right to talk to you? She knew we were a thing before she stepped into my damn house," I say.

"Listen, baby listen. It doesn't matter, she was tryna get under your skin today and you're letting her. I'm finished talking about her now, I wanna talk about you,"

I roll my eyes. "What about me?" I ask him.

"What made you drink today?"

I shake my head, I knew this question was coming up sooner or later.

"I was just overwhelmed, and all of those bottles were around. I was tempted, and I'm sorry for the way I acted with you, I'm sure I embarrassed myself,"

"Not too much," he laughs. "But I understand, I just don't want you doing that again,"

"Okay," I say. I didn't promise him because I wasn't sure if I would keep that promise.

"You wanna meet somewhere real quick? I miss you,"

"I miss you too," I say.

"I'm coming to see you,"

"It's late,"

"So?" Jayon questions, I can practically hear him smirk over the phone. I knew he would still come to my house no matter what time it was, and I honestly wasn't going to stop him.
I closed my eyes, smiling at how much this boy easily impacted my mood.

"Fine," I give in, getting ready to push the end button.

"Keep the door unlocked will you?" He asks.

"Bye Jayon," I say hanging up the phone.

My smile faded once I began to think about the moments he had shared with my sister today. I wondered what she had told him, what she had made him think. She was habitual. She always thought her thoughts were the right ones no matter how stupid it made her look. I placed my fists under my chin, staring deep into space while snoring and groaning took over the background of my thoughts.

My little cousins parents would never be here to get them.
