You all arrived at the building. You waited for Connor and then you both hurried after Hank. As you walked in you got in the elevator and began to ride it to the correct floor. You noticed Connor had his eyes closed and his LED was yellow. You wondered what he was doing. Once you got to the correct level you followed Hank out of the elevator. Connor still had his eyes closed. Hank noticed now too.

"Hey, Connor!" Hank called. He opened his eyes and his LED went back to blue. "You run out of batteries or what?"

"I'm sorry, I was making a report to Cyberlife." He replied.

"Well, do you plan on staying in the elevator?" Hank asked.

"No! I'm coming." Connor replied. You chuckled and he walked out, now walking next to you as Hank led the way.

"What do we know about this guy?" Hank asked.

"Not much. Just that a neighbor reported that he heard strange noises coming from this floor. Nobody is supposed to be living here, but the neighbor said he saw a man hiding an LED under his cap." Connor replied.

"Oh Christ, if we have to investigate every time someone hears a strange noise, we're gonna need more cops," Hank said, leaning against the door frame. "Hey were you really making a report in the elevator back there? Just by closing your eyes?" Hank asked.

"Correct."

"Shit...wish I could do that." You chuckled.

"Makes things easier, right?" You joked. Hank chuckled along.

"Sure as hell does." He agreed. You stood beside him as Connor came over after you. Connor knocked on the door. Nothing. Hank shrugged. He did it again, louder this time.

"Anybody home?" Connor called. "Open up! Detroit Police!" Connor shouted. There was a crash sound. Hank and Connor looked at each other, alarmed. Hank looked between the both of you.

"Stay behind me." He said.

"Got it," Connor replied. You stood next to him as Hank pulled out his gun. You had been given permission to have one as well, so you had your own in hand as well. He kicked in the door. Nobody was there. Connor followed Hank in and you followed after him. Hank busted down another door. Pigeons flew out and Hank ducked to avoid them.

"What the fuck is this!?" Hank shouted.

"Apparently pigeons are paying this place's rent right now." You said.

"Jesus, this place stinks," Hank said. You looked around. There was nothing really out of the ordinary. Well, out of the ordinary for an apartment overrun with birds. "Well, looks like we came for nothin'." You thought about it. It didn't add up. The normality of the place made no sense in itself. This can't be all there is to find. There's gotta be something.

"Something had to have caused that crash. Unless the birds worked together to knock something over, then I think there's more to this. There's gotta be something we're missing. Keep looking." You said. Soon enough, Connor found something in a jacket.

"R.T. Probably initials." He said. You raised an eyebrow. Really? Why would he put his initials in his jacket? Hank seemed to be thinking the same thing.

"He put his initials in his jacket? That's something your mom does when you're in first grade." Hank retorted. Connor looked at the license.

"The driver's license is fake," Connor said.

"Cool! At least we didn't come for nothing." Hank said semi-sarcastically. Connor went into the bathroom. You followed him. On the wall, RA9 was written over and over again. You were a little weirded out by it. Who writes like this? "Any idea what it means?" Hank asked, coming into the room as well.

"RA9...written 2471 times. It's the same sign Ortiz's android wrote on the shower wall. Why are they obsessed with this sign?" Connor questioned.

"Looks like mazes or something..." Hank said.

"Mazes...maybe it's some type of encrypted map? RA9 could be some sort of code or password. Maybe even the location itself." You pointed out.

"Maybe. That's one way to think about it." Hank agreed. You both walked back out, leaving Connor there. "Agh! Jesus, I hate these things!" Hank yelled as more birds flew around. You turned to him, raising one eyebrow at him with a smug smirk on your face.

"Afraid of birds Hank?" You teased.

"Ah, shut up!" He retorted.

"It's LED is in the sink," Connor said.

"You can take those off? I mean, I know humans can do it to their androids, but I didn't know androids could take them off." You asked.

"Yes. It would not be too difficult. Deviants are the only ones that do it, though. It wouldn't come to mind to a normal functioning android." Connor replied. You nodded.

"I guess it wouldn't, huh." You said, thinking about it.

"Not surprised it was an android. No human could live with all these fuckin' pigeons." Hank said. You snorted, trying not to laugh. Hank found some birdseed.

"Birdseed? I can't believe it. This nutjob was actually feeding these fuckers." Hank said.

"And caring for birds is a bad thing why?" You asked.

"I'm not saying it's bad. I'm saying that this," Hank began, gesturing broadly to all of the birds scattered all over the apartment. "is crazy!" You couldn't hold back a laugh now. Hank smiled a little as you did.

"Jeez, (Y/n). It wasn't that funny. You know...I don't remember the last time I heard you laugh like that." He said. You paused, frowning a little. "And I haven't seen you smile like that in ages either."

"Yeah, well...my laugh isn't a good one anyway." You said.

"I don't think it's bad," Connor said.

"For once, we agree on something," Hank added. You paused, remembering something again. You frowned.

"It's whatever." You said and kept looking around. You went back into the bathroom to see if there was anything else there. As you did, you looked at yourself in the mirror. You studied your face for a long time. The harder you looked, the more you felt like you were looking at a stranger. You felt like you weren't the person in the mirror. You still looked young and beautiful, but you could see the pain in yourself. The hurt and the heartbreak. You couldn't see who you used to be. You could only see what you were now. Somebody that was broken. Someone that could no longer go back.

You hadn't even realized that a few tears were now trickling down your cheeks. You looked at the girl who looked so familiar, but so foreign at the same time. You looked down at the LED Connor had found in the sink. You picked it up. You held it up to your own temple and looked at yourself again. For a second, but only just, you could've believed that it was a part of you. You wondered what it would be like. To be alive, but not be alive at the same time. To exist, but feel nothing. You wondered what it would be like to be an android. To be so smart and advanced, but numb to the world.

As you thought about it, the thought was almost pleasing. There was a sudden longing in you. A longing to leave everything, to forget, to become numb. But it was only in your head. It was a dream. And for every dream someone has, there's always a time when you have to wake up.
